FAG Bearing Shutdown Inspection

Source: FAG bearings  Tags: News

Regular inspection of bearing seals is an important task to maintain FAG bearings in optimal condition. The most favorable inspection time is scheduled during the period of regular shutdown inspection.

The importance of clean bearings:

It is important to keep the bearings and lubrication clean.

Before inspection, clean the surface of the machine, and then disassemble the parts around the FAG bearing. The oil seal is a very fragile part, so it needs to be disassembled carefully, do not apply excessive force, and then carefully check the oil seal and its surrounding parts. If it has shown bad symptoms, it must be replaced. A bad oil seal will cause FAG bearings Damage and resulting equipment downtime.

Check lubricant

Rub a little lubricant between the two fingers, if there are contaminants, you can feel it, or apply a thin layer of lubricant on the back of the hand, and then seal the light to check.

Change lubricant

After the oil-lubricated bearings are drained of the old oil, if possible, add fresh oil and let the machine spin at low speed for a few minutes. As far as possible, the motor oil should collect residual contaminants and then drain off these motor oils. It is best to filter the motor oil before use. Grease-lubricated bearings should avoid contacting any part of the bearing with cotton when changing the grease, because these residual fibers may be wedged between the rolling parts and cause damage, especially for small bearing applications. Note this problem.

Cover exposed bearings

1. When inspecting bearings, never expose the bearings to contaminants or moisture. If the work is interrupted, the machine should be covered with oil paper plastic sheets or similar materials.

2. If the unshielded bearings are cleaned without disassembly and inspection may be carried out, use a coating brush dipped in petroleum solvent to clean, then dry with a lint-free cloth or blow dry with compressed air (note Do not let the bearing assembly start to rotate).

3. Use a small mirror and a probe similar to that used by a dentist to inspect the bearing track surface, retainer and beads. If the bearing is not damaged, relubrication should be performed according to the recommendations of the lubrication instructions provided by the machine manufacturer.

4. Do not clean the bearing with sealing cover or dustproof; just wipe the external surface.

If the FAG bearing is damaged, it needs to be replaced. It is much more economical to replace the bearings during the period of regular shutdown and maintenance than the sudden shutdown due to bearing damage.

Three methods of FAG bearing lubrication

1. Oil bath lubrication

Partially immerse the bearing in the lubricating oil. When the bearing is stationary, the oil level should not be higher than the center of the lowest moving body. This method is not suitable for high speed, because the agitation of the oil will cause a large energy loss, causing the oil and bearings to overheat.

2. Drop oil lubrication

Oil drip lubrication is suitable for bearing parts that need to be supplied with a fixed amount of oil. The amount of oil drip should be properly controlled. Excessive amount of oil causes the temperature of the FAG bearing to increase. In order to make the oil drip smooth, the full loss system with low viscosity is often used. Oil L-AN15.

3. Splash lubrication

Splash lubrication is a commonly used lubrication method for bearings in general closed gear transmissions, that is, the rotation of the gear is used to seal the FAG bearing to prevent dust, water, acid gas and other debris from entering the bearing bush and preventing the lubricant from being lost. of. Sealing devices can be divided into contact and non-contact categories.
